As a Remote Sensing Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the management, analysis, and development of remote sensing analytics and decision support tools for the Weyerhaeuser Timberlands business. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a subject matter expert in remote sensing, advanced image processing and analysis, and programming.Key Functions Conduct remote sensing data collection from multiple sources, defining best practices for quality control and providing high quality dataConduct AI/ML data analytics for Timberland business using multisource remotely sense dataLead Next Generation Water Mapping project, utilizing proprietary LiDAR data and algorithmsConduct change detection analytics and time series analysis using satellite imageryConduct LiDAR data analytics, including segmentation, metrics extraction, and time series analysisDevelop AI/ML for object detection from multisource imageryDevelop new algorithms and tools for extracting value from LiDAR dataDevelop technical transfer and training about remote sensing applicationsExecute remote sensing analysis workflow (data acquisition, re-projection, geometric correction, radiometric correction, classification, and map production)Develop analysis using different satellite imagery and integration with LiDARDesign and generate algorithms and decision support tools, following modern rules for computer systems design and documentationProvide support with analytics and tools for business decisions in Forest Planning, Operations, Monitoring, Damage Assessment, and Environmental issuesDevelop and maintain satellite imagery, including cloud removal, pre-processing, processing, and assistance for multiple applications across the companyBe key member of a high-performance remote sensing teamAbout WeyerhaeuserWe sustainably manage forests and manufacture products that make the world a better place. Required Skills & QualificationsMasters degree (or higher) with at least 1 year of experience in applied sciences such as Forestry, Ecology, Natural Resources, or Biogeochemistry, with a strong emphasis in Remote Sensing (Specialty Areas: remote sensing, natural resources management, forest modeling)Knowledge and experience in the application of the principles of remote sensing, remote sensors, field checking and image processing (including fully corrected perspective views), and interpretation to forest or natural resource managementProficient in remote sensing-GIS tools: ArcGIS, ERDAS, QT Modeler, QGISExperienced in programming (Python and R preferred) and machine learning, directly through a computer science degree program or from ancillary coursework to support another degree or professional activityMotivated by confronting big problems, self-directed, disciplined, able to function as a solo contributor and a productive team memberCompetency in the use of statistical tools (e.g., R (preferred), SAS) and a thorough understanding of geo-statistics, including kriging and variogram analysisCuriosity and eagerness to learn, engage with subject matter experts, and look for opportunities to improve processes, while applying technical expertise to ensure analytical rigor and sound study designStrong communication and interpersonal skills are essential Job Field: Forestry GIS/Technology Job Type: Full Time Location Detail: Seattle, WA Salary: $86,742 - $130,250 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience Job Benefits: Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $86,742 - $130,250 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay.
