Job Description:

Clemson University is seeking to hire a seasonal field technician to assist with reptile conservation work in Northwest Georgia. The technician will be working on a multi-agency and multi-state effort seeking to restore the Mountain Longleaf Pine ecosystem. Direct project goals include evaluating ecosystem restoration success by: 1) monitoring assemblage level data across restoration management treatments, 2) determining the spatial response of upland snake species to restoration management treatments, and 3) investigating factors influencing Pine Snake occupancy across the region.

Primary duties include:

1. Construction and installation of live-capture and camera-based reptile traps.

2. Daily monitoring and maintenance of reptile traps.

3. Handling and processing captured reptiles.

4. Detailed field data collection on captured vertebrates as well as habitat data.

5. Sub-meter VHF radio telemetry of upland snakes.

6. Organizing and entering data on a weekly basis.

The technician will work as part of a small team, thus some field days will be conducted solo. Excellent communication skills are required as the technician will communicate with the public on a routine basis. The technician will also help to lead interns and volunteers, so some management experience will be required.
