Job Description:

The University of Missouri in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Conservation is now accepting applications to fill one (1) research field crew leader position working on the woody vegetation study of the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project (MOFEP). Study sites are located in the southeast Missouri Ozarks in the Current River and Peck Ranch Conservation Areas.

Essential job duties will include measuring structural attributes of trees and shrubs in fixed area plots, including DBH and height, mapping a subsample of trees for linking plot data to recently collected QL1 LiDAR data, and recording observations of species, condition (e.g., live, dead), and crown class. The crew leader will be responsible for training technicians, daily logistics, data management and quality control.

Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in cold/wet weather, often in rugged terrain. Housing and transportation to field sites will be provided.

Qualifications:

• Experience leading field crews made up of at least two members is required

• Coursework and/or field experience in forest inventory and measurement techniques

• Experience identifying woody plant species based on observations of bark, buds, and leaf scars

• Field navigation skills using GPS, map, and compass

• Ability to communicate and work successfully and respectfully in teams

Salary:
$13.27/hour
Benefits:

Bunkhouse housing will be provided near field sites. Basic utilities will be provided, including Wi-Fi.
