Deadline: Mon, 09/12/2022 - 12:00pm Employer: University of Missouri and Missouri Department of Conservation Job Field: Forestry Wildlife Other Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Missouri Location Detail: Ellington Job Description: The University of Missouri in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Conservation is now accepting applications to fill seven (7) research field technician positions working on the woody vegetation study of the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project (MOFEP). Study sites are located in the southeast Missouri Ozarks in the Current River and Peck Ranch Conservation Areas. Essential job duties will include measuring structural attributes of trees and shrubs in fixed area plots, including DBH and height, mapping a subsample of trees for linking plot data to recently collected QL1 LiDAR data, and recording observations of species, condition (e.g., live, dead), and crown class. Compensation package includes competitive pay rate, housing for the duration of the project, and transportation to and from field sites. Utilities will also be provided, including Wi-Fi. Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in cold/wet weather, often in rugged terrain. Qualifications: 1. Experience identifying woody plant species based on observations of bark, buds, and leaf scars 2. Field navigation skills using GPS, map, and compass 3. Ability to communicate and work successfully and respectfully in teams 4.
