Job Description:

The USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, is conducting outreach for an upcoming Research Forester position specializing in silviculture. The successful candidate will develop a research program advancing sustainable forest management in California and the western U.S. Regional priorities include, but are not limited to, advancing the pace and scale of forest restoration and post-fire reforestation. The successful candidate would be expected to continue ongoing research on Experimental Forests, as well as pursue new research using this infrastructure.

 

Qualifications:

Basic requirements follow the GS-460 Forester series. The educational requirement is at least 30 credit hours of coursework in a Forestry program. At the GS-12 level, candidates would have demonstrated the full cycle of scientific research. Candidates would typically, but not always, need a PhD or substantial progress towards a PhD to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Salary:
GS-12/GS-13. First-time hires are typically hired at Step 1 of either grade.
