Deadline: Sun, 10/27/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: UGA Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources Job Field: Forestry Job Type: Experienced Professional Location: Georgia Location Detail: Athens, GA Job Description: Position Summary: Provide statistical and technical assistance to the National Park Service’s Inventory and Monitoring Division, with a focus on analyzing monitoring data for a variety of resources, primarily forest vegetation. Prepare and provide statistical-support reports; develop methods and tools for quality-control review, analysis, and visualization of data Assist with the review of monitoring protocols (such as power analyses and evaluating data variability and recommending changes to reduce variability) Present research results to partners and at scientific conferences Publish in peer-reviewed literature Assist with development of research proposals Interact with scientists at the National Park Service and the Georgia Cooperative Research Unit and our partners. Other related duties may also be assigned as needs arise (e.g., required training, contribution to general operation of the research unit). Further, lab members are expected to help maintain a supportive collegiate environment. The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop a related analysis project of her/his choosing that will lead to a publishable manuscript while helping the parks meet their broad objectives of understanding status and trends of forest vegetation to inform management activities. Qualifications: Qualifications: Required PhD in Statistics or with quantitative work in a related field (e.g., Ecology, Natural Resources); demonstration of expertise with statistical analyses and modeling (e.g., GLMMs, GAMs, occupancy modeling) of monitoring data Proficiency with R Experience with managing data and developing data visualizations Ability to work independently and collaboratively Written and oral communication skills corresponding to quantitative analyses. Preferred Prior experience analyzing monitoring data on forest vegetation. Record of scholarship using data collected from natural habitats and wild populations, especially forest vegetation. Salary: approximately $60,000 / year, plus benefits, with potential for continuation of 1-2 additional years contingent upon performance and funding.
