Job Description:

The University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources are seeking a Research Technician (BS) and Research Professional (MS) to provide support to studies in forest ecology, ecophysiology, ecohydrology, fire ecology, and biogeochemistry. The primary duties will focus on measurements of ecosystem processes and physiology, including above- and belowground growth parameters and indices, tree and soil gas exchange, tree water use, and soil sampling. Experimental maintenance, including monitoring and control of forest plot irrigation system, herbicide application, brush cutting, and other activities is also required. Fabrication and repair of sensors and measurement devices will also be expected. Outdoor working conditions can occasionally be harsh (i.e., hot and humid). Data processing and basic analysis will also be expected.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a BS (technician) or MS (professional) in ecology, forestry, natural resources, biology, environmental science, or closely related discipline is required. The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team and be able to troubleshoot problems with equipment. Basic laboratory and data management skills are required. A valid driver’s license is required. Experience with forest measurement and ecophysiology techniques and equipment is highly desirable, including use of sap flow sensors, soil moisture sensors, thermocouples, dataloggers, infrared gas analyzers, pressure chambers, etc.

Salary:
Salary is $36-40K (technician) and $42-50K (professional) plus benefits with annual renewal, pending availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
