Job Description:

The University of Georgia's Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources are seeking a Research Technician (BS) or Research Professional (MS) to support studies in phytoremediation and forest ecology. The primary duties will focus on determining tritium concentrations in forest soils, which includes field sampling of soils and lab processing, extraction, and measurement. Maintenance of laboratory equipment (sensors, vacuum pumps, balances, pipettes, etc), oversight of chemical inventories, and report preparation, including data processing and basic analysis, are required. Outdoor working conditions can occasionally be harsh (i.e., hot and humid). Additional duties include assisting with field and lab activities related to other studies in forest ecology, ecophysiology, ecohydrology, and biogeochemistry.

The position is located at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, SC. The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory is a research unit of the University of Georgia located on the 200,000-acre Savannah River Site (SRS), a National Environmental Research Park operated by the Department of Energy near Aiken, SC. The SRS, located on the upper coastal plain of South Carolina, encompasses diverse upland and aquatic habitats. Throughout its 60+ year history SREL has strived to acquire and communicate knowledge that contributes to sound ecological stewardship of the SRS.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a BS (technician) or MS (professional) in ecology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, natural resources, or closely related discipline is required. The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, be capable of working independently and as part of a team and be able to troubleshoot problems with equipment. Basic laboratory and data management skills are required. A valid driver's license is required. The candidate may be required to successfully complete Radiological Worker training. 

Salary:
$36-42,000 at technician level; $42-50,000 at professional level, both depending upon qualifications.
