This is a federal research scientist position with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The incumbent will be expected to maintain graduate faculty status at the University of Georgia (UGA).

The Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit is a collaborative partnership among the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the University of Georgia, The U.S. Geological Survey, the Wildlife Management Institute, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Cooperative Research Units program (https://www1.usgs.gov/coopunits) has a storied history of enhancing graduate education in fisheries and wildlife sciences and facilitating research and technical assistance between natural resource agencies and universities. The CRU program is a network of approximately 120 colleagues stationed at 43 Units in 41 states.

The AUL will be stationed in Athens, GA and will serve in multiple capacities – employed and paid by the USGS while holding a separate UGA graduate faculty appointment (non-tenure) within the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (www.warnell.uga.edu) with activity areas in research, teaching, service, and administration. Faculty are expected to engage in extramurally funded research, graduate teaching, and professional service that includes collaboration with our partners. AULs generally teach one graduate-level course per year. Preferred candidates will have experience conducting applied research pertaining to species of greatest conservation need, including non-game terrestrial wildlife, to support Species Status Assessments and active conservation particularly in systems of Georgia and the southeastern U.S.

Qualifications:

Requirements: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in wildlife science or a closely related field of study. Additional requirements can be viewed in the official job posting. Candidates must be citizens of the United States.

Athens is a diverse community of approximately 150,000 people located about 70 miles from Atlanta. UGA enrolls over 40,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Warnell School is a professional school with 69 faculty, 100 support staff, 325 undergraduates, and 220 graduate students. The School manages approximately 18,000 acres of forestland across the state in support of its teaching, outreach, and research missions.

Salary:
$87,466 - $113,706 per year
