Job Description:

Our Forestry Division, Stirling District, has an opening for a Road Crew Manager / District Forester to manage a forest road construction and maintenance crew and help sustainably manage the Company’s timberlands in Butte, Tehama, Plumas, Nevada, Yuba, Placer, and Sierra Counties. This position will involve working with USFS and California Registered Professional Foresters (RPF’s) to prepare harvest plans, administer harvest operations and oversee a 2–3-person road crew. Work will be based out of

the office in Oroville, CA requiring living in one of the surrounding communities.

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Directs the road crew during the construction/maintenance of Sierra Pacific Industries / USFS road projects

  • Assists the preparation of Timber Harvest Plans (THP’s), including research, field work and mapping

  • Manage operations, machinery, materials and logistics for field operations on road projects

  • Effectively and professionally represent Sierra Pacific Industries, interacting with neighbors and resource state regulatory agencies

  • Responsible for record keeping/paperwork associated with road crew projects

  • Assist in all forest activities, including reforestation, wildlife , botany and archeology.

  • Oversees machine operators, production, safety, equipment and resource protection

  • Forestry-related project work in a wide range of weather and field conditions

  • Hike in remote mountainous regions using maps, compass, and GPS

Qualifications:

 

  1. Familiarity with the California Forest Practice Rules, Degree in Resource Management preferred

  2. Experience with forest road construction and maintenance and THP Operations

  3. Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, and strong work ethic

  4. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based software programs

  5. Ability to successfully supervise the road crew and support flow of work

  6. Familiarity with operating heavy equipment

  7. Current valid driver’s license
