Sandy Creek Day Camp Director

create lesson plans, supervise staff, organize outdoor recreational/science activities, lead activities such as canoeing, archery, hiking, animal handling, and much more.

Primarily the director will create lesson plans for counselors.  Directors will organize the camp, help direct kids and adults in safe, fun outdoor activities.  Work directly with full-time staff at Sandy Creek Nature Center and Sandy Creek Park to ensure a safe summer for all.  Communicate with guardians/parents, general public, and full-time staff to run camp.  Help to train staff in outdoor skills and sometimes lead lessons in nature/science/rec, etc.

Sandy Creek Day Camp Counselor

working with kids, live animal handling, teaching outdoor lessons (nature/science/outdoor rec skills),  leading outdoor activities such as canoeing, archery, hiking, games, swimming, creek walks, orienteering, and much more. 

Primarily working directly with children to help them have a fun, safe, and educational camp experience.  Hike with children to spend time in nature, swim in Lake Chapman at Sandy Creek Park, lead creek hikes in Sandy Creek, play games, have art fun, create an engaging time outside for children.

Sandy Creek Day Camp Lakefront Lifeguard

This is a job where you will oversee a section of Lake Chapman for Sandy Creek Day Camp.  You will watch children and adults in the swim area, perform "buddy" checks with staff and campers, lead and supervise canoeing, and other typical lifeguard duties.  While not on duty at Lake Chapman the lifeguard will act as a counselor.  

 

 

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to create a positive, supportive, creative and safe learning environment during the day camp programs sponsored by the Leisure Services Department.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to participating in and conducting activities and programs. Ensures safety of all assigned campers, assists with setup, cleanup, and minor cleaning of program and restroom areas.

Ability to supervise campers ages 6-12 is preferred for camp positions.
Experience working with teens ages 13-15 is required when assigned to teen camps or Teen in Action.

 

Job Related Requirements:
WORK SCHEDULE:  Camp training will be scheduled Tuesday through Friday the last week in May. Shifts will be scheduled between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm Monday-Friday. These are seasonal positions requiring your attendance at work. Additional staff is not hired for covering absences. Requests to be away from camp for more than three (3) consecutive days will be denied.

May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.

 

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Six months of experience working with children in a camp, daycare, or other recreational setting where child supervision was required; OR one full season of day camp experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess current first aid and CPR (valid through end of Camp Season) by start of camp. Training is provided.

Some high school required.

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
