Employer Colorado State Forest Service Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills Duties and Responsibilities:Supporting the US Forest Service GNA program in Jackson and Routt CountiesChainsaw operation - thinning and opening roadsAssisting with timber sale layout - cruising, boundary delineation, and markingVarious GPS and GIS applicationsAssisting with assessment and treatment of insect and disease projects Minimum Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start datePursuing or completed degree in forestry or related natural resources fieldAbility to (or willingness to learn how to) operate a manual transmission vehicleAbility to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in variable weather and road conditionsAbility to (or willingness to learn how to) operate chainsaws, timber cruising & marking equipment, and perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditionsAbility and willingness to work long hours with occasional evening and weekend duties (work based on a 40-hour work week)Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team Conditions of Employment:This position requires hiking and carrying field equipment most hours of the workdayOccasional camping will be requiredThe employee should be able to work in adverse weather conditions, steep/rough terrain, and with minimal supervision Preferred Experience: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and writtenOne season of field experienceExperience in the utilization of Microsoft Suite, ArcGIS Suite, Avenza or GPS Job Field: Forestry Community Forestry & Arboriculture Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location Detail: - Medicine Bow Routt National Forest Parks Ranger Station (Walden, CO) - Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger Station (Steamboat Springs, CO) Salary: HOURLY PAY RATE: $18.00 per hour (depending on experience) – dormitory style housing Job Benefits: CLOSING DATE: Applications will be considered until all vacancies are filled, however materials should be received by February 15th, 2026 for full consideration.
