About the Opportunity

Copperhead Environmental Consulting is expanding our team and actively seeking a Forestry/Habitat Restoration Technician to join our family of professional consultants. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop a long-term career in the environmental consulting industry and is open to diversification across the company.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Work as part of a team conducting forest management activities.

• Work as part of a team using herbicide treatments targeting invasive species.

• Apply pesticides by direct injection, basal, and foliar methods.

• Use pesticides according to the manufacturer’s label.

• Conduct TSI using mechanical methods, to include limited chainsaw use for girdling and felling.

• Follow detailed instructions to complete required tasks.

• Maintain tools and equipment.

• May work under close supervision or infrequent supervision.

Working Conditions/Physical Effort:

Position will require working in variable weather conditions on rough, rocky, uneven terrain at remote locations under physically demanding circumstances. Work locations will vary throughout the region including various locations in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Position may also require:

• Considerable physical exertion including the ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds

• Require long hours in isolated settings

• Require ability to work varying and flexible work schedules, i.e., potentially through weekends

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics:

Knowledge and experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (or working towards degree) in forestry, wildlife management, or related science is preferred. Previous similar work experience may be substituted for education. Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems; knowledge of forest and wildlife management techniques preferred but not required; and the ability to identify trees and plants by species is required. Ability to maintain a Kentucky Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License is also required.

Technology: Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., manual and powered sprayers, chainsaws, Global Positioning Systems [GPS units], all-terrain vehicles, and 4-wheel drive vehicles).

Physical: Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, random drug screenings, and background investigation. Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
