Deadline: Tue, 03/21/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Conservation Section Job Field: Water and Soil Resources Wildlife Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Social Circle, Georgia Job Description: Seeking a temporary, full-time (up to 40 hrs./wk.) aquatics technician for the Winter-Spring 2023 season. Duties for this position will be primarily focused on entering and organizing biological data, assisting with preserved specimen collections, and aquatics field data collection. The position will be based out of the Wildlife Resources Conservation Center in Social Circle, Georgia*. Field work may include surveys for fish and other rare aquatic species throughout the state. Data collection may include visual and tactile searches for freshwater mollusks using snorkel equipment as well as fish sampling using electrofishing, seining, and other aquatic sampling methods. Additional duties will include equipment and lab maintenance. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required skills: Two-year degree in biology, natural resources, or a related field -OR- two years experience in a technician role or similar employment Ability to work in inclement conditions including heat, cold, rain, turbid water, and biting insects. Availability for multi-day overnight travel Monday-Friday and a valid Driver's license. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. short distances Familiarity with Microsoft suite of software (Excel, Word, Access) Willingness to participate in low visibility aquatic surveys using waders or snorkeling equipment. Miscellaneous: *On-site housing may be available if desired. Term of employment is up to 168 days after expected start date February 1, 2023. Rate of pay is $13.00/hr.
