Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

This is a seasonal appointment (up to 29 hours per week) beginning in February / March 2025 and located at our Brunswick, GA office. The associate will support the Georgia Coastal Management Program and support restoration initiatives through direct supervision by the Program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: The associate will be expected to participate in field activities associated with the aquatic barriers assessment under the direction of the wetlands field biologist. Specific duties will include conducting field surveys at road-stream crossings using a technical aquatic barrier assessment protocol. The associate’s responsibilities will include: training with staff on the survey protocol, driving to remote field sites, collecting data according to the survey protocol, entering the data into a computer program and participating on calls with other agencies. The associate will be required to work in harsh environmental conditions and on some days in excess of 8 hours/day. The associate will assist the wetlands field biologist and other projects with field activities and projects as needed.  Other tasks will include participating in marsh health and monitoring on barrier islands, assisting in boating and drone surveys, data entry and supporting public outreach events, and cleaning tools and equipment. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

(1) Possession of or education in progress for a Bachelor’s Degree in biology, ecology, geology, environmental science, natural resource management or related field;

(2) Experience working in coastal wetlands, marshes and rivers in South Georgia; 

(3) Experience conducting field-based data collection or research; 

(4) Computer knowledge including proficiency in all Microsoft products – Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel; 

(5) Ability to work independently and as part of team in remote and harsh outdoor environments; and, 

(6) Valid driver’s license.
