Employer The Nature Conservancy Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills The Seasonal Preserve Technician performs and participates in preserve operations, maintenance, and management. They maintain preserve areas and perform land and wildlife management activities. The Seasonal Preserve Technician supervises no staff but may help plan and direct preserve work groups, including staff or volunteers. They conduct vegetation management and/or conduct species monitoring and may also manage livestock.The Seasonal Preserve Technician will assist in prescribed burn preparation and implementation as well as maintenance and operation of tools and equipment. They may work long hours independently in isolated settings while making day-to-day decisions as delegated by a supervisor. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. This is a 24-26-week duration, full-time position.This position will be based at the Roy E. Larsen Sandyland Preserve in Silsbee, TX. Optional housing is provided with this position. Work will be conducted on TNC and partner properties primarily in the East Texas with the expectation of periodic travel for work operations in other areas of the state. The employee will be expected toAssist with preserve management and habitat restoration practicesLearn and implement local plant and animal management techniquesAssist with prescribed fire preparation and implementationBecome familiar with and operate various equipment and machinery Work with TNC staff, partner organizations, and volunteers to accomplish restoration and stewardship objectivesAssist in improving and maintaining preserve facilities. Qualifications:High school diploma or GED and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management. Experience recognizing plant and animal species. Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment). Experience working in a team environment. Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. NWCG FFT2 or higher, First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).
