Job Description:

The Jones Center at Ichauway is currently accepting applications to fill a temporary full-time (40 hours per week), Seasonal Technician position in the Ecological Silviculture Research Lab.

 

The start date is May 22, 2023 but the candidate could begin work earlier. The length of the appointment is until August 31, 2023 but could be extended based on performance and project needs. The employee will work closely with the Silviculturist (Joshua Puhlick; https://lab.jonesctr.org/puhlick/) on converting longleaf pine plantations to multi-aged stands and native groundcover restoration. The employee will collect and process grasses and forbs from clip plots and measure trees on permanent plots. Other tasks include sorting, weighing, and grinding soil organic horizon samples. The typical work day during the summer is field work in the morning hours followed by laboratory work in the afternoon.

 

This work will occur at the 28,500-acre research center, which is in southwestern Georgia between Albany and Bainbridge. The Jones Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems. For more information visit our website: www.jonesctr.org.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

 

The successful candidate must have a strong desire to work in both the field and laboratory settings. Experience with grass and forb identification and laboratory work is preferred. The ability to work and communicate well with others is required.

Benefits:
