This job is located in Northern Alabama in the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa region.

 

Who you are:

You are passionate about sustainable forestry and managing timberlands for the long term. You are an experienced forester who is ready for the next move in your career. You have prepared annual harvest plans and managed the execution of harvest, silviculture, and inventory activities through contractors. You have working knowledge of Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certification requirements, state Best Management Practices (BMPs) and local ordinances regarding commercial timber harvest and transportation. In addition, you have the proven ability to be a leader working with a strong team of professionals. You work with integrity, trust and commitment, setting an example for others.

 

What the job is:

As the Senior Forester for the Northern Alabama footprint, you are responsible for overseeing all forestry related activities within your area. This includes evaluating and managing harvest plans to balance short- and long-term impacts to financial goals, future harvest levels, and customer commitments. Developing strong customer and contractor relationships to aid in the execution of the area’s long-term goals.

 

An example of the daily responsibilities of this role:

 

- Take personal initiative and responsibility to ensure that safety is always a priority.

- Create and maintain an accurate harvest plan for the area.

- Manage the layout of harvest settings and haul roads to ensure productivity with the least environmental impact.

- Managing the road building/maintenance program and oversee contract road work.

- Perform field checks to ensure contract and harvest plan compliance.

- Manage a stumpage sale program that creates competition to maximize stumpage margins.

- Understand stumpage market conditions to time markets and be an opportunistic stumpage seller.

- Utilize communication and negotiation skills to interact with customers and contractors.

- Budget for and manage site preparation, planting, and other silviculture activities.

- Manage property line surveying and marking, maintenance of gates and monitoring encroachment within the region.

- Assist Green Diamond’s Real Property & Transaction Administrator with mineral lease contractual obligations and oversite of mineral surface use activities.

- Monitor hunting club field activities to ensure compliance with the terms of the recreation lease agreement.

- Represent the Company at public meetings and community events.

Salary:
$60,000 - $110,000/Year (based on experience)
Benefits:

Annual salary will be determined based on the experience and proficiency of the incumbent in the role. Base pay is just one component of Green Diamond’s total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive a company-wide annual financial performance bonus, and the opportunity to receive an individual performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.
