Job Description:

• Lead GIS technical support for the Watershed Assessment and Planning Branch

• Manage oversight of GIS applications, layers, and services for the branch and develop a data stewardship framework for branch activities

• Lead development of interactive tools and novel public outreach materials such as interactive maps, story maps, and public visualizations for reporting of environmental programs and data

• Develop water data related tools, spatial modeling tools, internal/external support for defining critical areas

• Develop spatial tools for identifying and/or evaluating ongoing or novel environmental issues

• Develop and undertake GIS spatial-relational database projects. Responsible for complex analysis and representation of data in maps, and develop methods and procedures to automate routine spatial analysis.

• Prepare applications documentation, user-training materials and quality control procedures, status reports, and other written correspondence

• Creation, analysis, and maintenance of spatial data layers and/or applications using the ArcGIS suite of desktop products and ArcGIS Online mapping platform

• Provide tabular and spatial database support as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the office and branch

• Review technical maps produced by branch staff to ensure they meet agency standards for their intended use

• Office wide support with GIS Coordinator

• Work with external groups for development of state or regional specific tools for modeling watersheds and/or environmental data

• Support analysis needs of external groups (Indiana Science Assessment, DAP, etc.)

• Participate in internal and external workgroups and serve as a technical lead on data analysis software such as R and Power BI

Qualifications:

3-5 years of professional experience in environmental or natural resources science, geography, biology, statistics, or related field. An M.S. degree in any of these fields of study with emphasis on spatial and statistical analysis may substitute for experience. Knowledge or experience with GIS, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online is required. Experience using scripting language such as Python or Arcade is desirable.

 

Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, geography, biology, statistics, or a related field required. Thorough knowledge of GIS, and the use of ESRI's ArcGIS platforms with emphasis on ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Experience conducting spatial and statistical analysis and interpreting data. Ability to manage complex databases and provide support for multiple areas. Ability to effectively interact with groups both inside and outside of agency orally and in writing to meet competing needs. Strong ability to work independently and in a team to help lead program improvements.
