You will execute the forest management component of the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) for the 35,000 acre training center and the 1,000 acre Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. The essential functions of this role are as follows: - Accomplishes the professional, scientific, and technical work required in the administration of the forest management program, including long range objectives. - Prepares and executes the forest management component plan of the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan. - Surveys timber stands and compartments to make professional evaluations for land management decision-making. - Leads crew in executing annual plans for the Timber Harvest Program to include sale design, layout, cruising and marking. - Develops and administers contracts associated with timber sales, timber stand improvement, reforestation, etc. - Plans and supervises the establishment and maintenance of fire lanes along with fire and timber access roads. - Manages and assists in the collection of forest resource data for state and federal programs. - Develops and implements annual Forestry budget. - Develops and implements work plans for the Forestry Program. Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry with 5 years minimum experience. - NWCG FFT2 or higher certification; may occur post employment. - Thorough knowledge of forest management principals, regulations and administration. - Specialized knowledge of botany and tree identification. - Specialized knowledge of forest mensuration and silvicultural techniques. - Specialized knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI GIS Suite and forest inventory software. - Extensive knowledge of recent forest management research and ability to incorporate this knowledge in program planning. - Extensive knowledge of and operating experience with GPS and forest inventory data loggers. - Basic knowledge of land surveying. - Ability to supervise and direct work of others. - Ability to work independently as well as with others (i.e., in a multi-discipline team construct). - Ability to plan and conduct work with little supervision. - Have or obtain an Indiana Operators License (i.e., driver license). - Ability to write for understanding, including technical reports, interagency correspondence, and interagency agreements. - Knowledge of military land use requirements. - Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and rough terrain. - Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
