Job Description:

Position Description: This position is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups. The Park is currently experiencing a dramatic increase in the number of visitors, and park managers are concerned that visitors continue to be vexed by the complex system of interconnected trails. This position aims to address this problem by improving and creating new signage to improve visitor experiences. The ACE Fellow will be trained on Corel Draw, ArcGIS and other software to aid in sign design and fabrication. Other duties may include sign installation, trail maintenance and repairs, volunteer group leadership, and other maintenance tasks. The ACE Fellow should be prepared for a variety of climactic and environmental extremes and conditions during the term of service.

Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts

Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.

Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.

A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).

Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks.

Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or have requested and been granted a medical or religious exemption to vaccination by the time they start their term.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with safely using a variety of power tools

Willingness and ability to hike long distances on rough terrain while carrying tools and equipment up to 75 lbs.

 

Miscellaneous:

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Fellow to contribute to fabricating and installing new trail signs and assist with trail maintenance in order to provide better visitor orientation and access to park trails.

Location: Twentynine Palms, CA

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California.

Living Allowance: The ACE Fellow is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $771.60/week to help offset the costs of housing, food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. There will also be a $550 reimbursable gear allowance.

Housing:

ACE members will be accommodated in park provided housing at no cost for the duration of the term.

Scheduling: Four 10-hour days. Monday through Thursday. From 6am-4:30pm.
