Description:

The University of New Hampshire is seeking 2 Field Research Interviewers to support the National Visitor Use Monitoring (NVUM) Program on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin in October and November 2025. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on field experience in outdoor recreation and social science research 

The National Visitor Use Monitoring program has two concurrent goals. First, to produce estimates of the volume of recreation visitation to National Forests. Second, to produce descriptive information about that visitation, including activity participation, demographics, visit duration, measures of satisfaction, and trip spending connected to the visit.

  • Conduct on-site, face-to-face surveys with recreation visitors across diverse forest sites throughout the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin
  • Support data collection on visitor demographics, activities, satisfaction, trip spending, and more.
  • Dates: October 1 – November 30, 2025

Qualifications: 

  • Commit to the entire 2-month study period
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations and in all weather conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge and skill in written/oral communication
  • Responsible individual with polite, courteous, and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to conduct verbal interviews, follow directions, read maps, use tablet computers, proficiency with a laptop computer
  • Be at least 20 years of age
  • Have a valid US driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record required to operate a USFS vehicle
  • Able to drive long distances in varied terrain
  • Be able to pass a background check.
