Job Field: Water and Soil Resources Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Athens, GA Job Description: This is an applied soil scientist position sited in either our Asheville or Athens office. Primary responsibilities would include assisting project managers in conducting detailed site and soil evaluations in support of a diverse array of projects. The selected candidate will have opportunities to develop and grow within the company. General responsibilities include: Fieldwork: performs field mapping, sampling and/or other investigations according to protocol as guided by the Project Manager. Specific field tasks may include but are not limited to soil mapping and classification, hydric soil delineations, sampling for soil chemical analysis, and permeability testing. May also include surface/storm water and groundwater sampling and assessment as required by specific projects. Communication: coordinates with Project Managers and internal staff on all aspects of scheduling, field logistics and general project support. Data Analysis: compiles, reduces and formats field and mapping data. Reporting: provides input (narratives, figures and data summaries) on reports and technical memorandums as guided by the Project Manager. Qualifications: Core Requirements: B.S. Degree or higher, M.S. preferred. 1-5 years combined education & experience. Achieve “in training” or “Associate” status for professional certification. Must be adept at learning new technologies for both field and office equipment. Must be able to work in a variety of field conditions: including inclement weather, seasonal fluctuations in outdoor temperatures, rugged terrain, and creature related field hazards. Miscellaneous: We are a well established (40+ years) environmental consulting firm, with ~30 employees located in Athens, GA and Asheville, NC. We serve numerous municipal, industrial, federal, private, and legal clients.
