Job Description:

Primary duties and training include:

• Review proposals and process applications.

• Assist in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.

• Issue special use authorizations.

• Conduct inspections and compliance reviews. • Create and track land use bills.

• Enter and update data in the Special Use Data System (SUDS), the database of record for the program.

• Manage special uses records (paper and electronic files) consistent with Forest Service records policy.

Work Environment and Physical Demands Most of the work is performed in an office setting and some in the field with exposure to hazards associated with foot travel to remote forested areas in bear country. Transport to the field is typically by motorized boat or floatplane. Field duties may involve driving, hiking, climbing, other forms of outdoor physical activities, and camping for extended periods of time (1-2 weeks) in primitive conditions. Office work is mostly sedentary or standing for prolonged periods of time. The remote, island geography, spectacular scenery, and temperate rainforest environment keep many here for decades but (full disclosure) this environment can also be wet, dark, and dreary for others. Qualifications:

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.

• Valid driver’s license required.

• Basic computer skills, comfortable with standard Microsoft Office programs.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Good interpersonal skills; respectful of diverse perspectives; works cooperatively with others.

• Self-motivated and can work independently.

• Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.

• Ability to organize and multi-task.

• Must be a team player.

Miscellaneous:

In partnership with the USDA Forest Service, MobilizeGreen is seeking a Resource Assistant to support the Tongass National Forest’s special uses program. This program serves over 30 rural communities in southeast Alaska and beyond. We support services (like energy transmission, telecommunication, municipal water systems), small business opportunities (such as outfitter/guides), community events (like high school cross country races), and other forest uses (like fish hatcheries, weather stations, scientific research). We manage about 650 special use authorizations with a staff of about 10 special uses administrators.

Salary:
$650 per week living allowance
Benefits:

• $1,000 per month housing stipend (government housing may be available)

• Stipend for travel to and from duty location.

• 2-year non-competitive hiring certificate with the Forest Service (with successful completion of 960 hours)
