POSITION INFORMATION:

At the Cobb County Water System, we strive to provide quality water, wastewater, and

stormwater management services in an effective and environmentally conscientious

manner. The Cobb County Water System Stream Monitoring Program conducts

environmental assessment through chemical, biological, and habitat monitoring of

streams.



We are seeking an intern who would like to gain hands-on experience in assessing stream

health while utilizing scientific concepts. This intern will assist with daily field operations

and be supervised by an aquatic biologist within the Stream Monitoring Program; field

operations include: water quality sampling and biological assessments of Cobb County

Streams, and the investigation of sources of pollution and illicit discharges.

The Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) is a 200 hour paid summer internship

program opportunity provided in partnership with the Association County Commissioners

of Georgia Civic Affairs Foundation, Inc. This position will end when the grant runs out.

The internship will start on June 12th and last for 7 weeks or 200 hours. This position

does not qualify for benefits.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with staff to learn about department initiatives and how their project/internship

aligns with these initiatives.

  • Communicates effectively both verbally, in writing, and in presenting information. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, and requests from other staff.
  • Participates in meetings and other events held by the assigned department as needed.
  • Utilizes personal computers, standard office equipment and standard software applications, e.g., word processors, database software, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Maintains attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances for this position.
  • Duties may vary depending on the department the intern is assigned to.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student or must have graduated within the last six months. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Depending on the type of internship the participant may be required to be a Cobb County resident.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:



Tasks require the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically

demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).



Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds,

odor, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions,

such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise

extremes, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright and dim lights, toxic agents, animal and

wildlife attacks, water hazards, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude and irate customers.

Salary:
$17.00 - $26.35 Hourly
