Overview: This position will foster the mutual conservation objectives of Habitat Forever (HF), Pheasants

Forever (PF), US Fish and Wildlife Service, Partners for Fish and Wildlife at California U, and other resource

agencies, by developing wildlife habitat in streams and upland settings of Pennsylvania. This position is part of a

partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Pennsylvania Field Office and Pheasants Forever, Inc.

(PF). Under the direction of USFWS staff, incumbent will conduct stream restoration and habitat management

work on cooperating private lands as well as targeted public lands in designated priority geographies within

Pennsylvania as part of the USFWS Partners for Fish and Wildlife program. This position is a full-time,

permanent employee of Pheasants Forever and will receive daily leadership from USFWS staff. This position

will be located in the USFWS Pennsylvania Field Office in State College, PA and USFWS will provide daily

guidance and direction to the Stream Restoration Technician Team.



Duties: The incumbent will implement stream restoration and wildlife habitat management practices throughout

Pennsylvania. Major responsibilities include:

• Coordinate and aid in the characterization and/or monitoring of impaired and reference reaches of

candidate streams for restoration.

• Arrange for the procurement of supplies and equipment for restoration and habitat management projects.

• Assist with notifications of landowners, One-Call, PA Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC), and other

appropriate agencies prior to project implementation.

• Coordinate and implement the data collection,reduction and reporting of the stream characterization or

monitoring data.

• Implement a stream restoration plan on cooperating private land as well as public lands that includes but

is not limited to staking out new channel alignment, siting and laying out in-stream structures, and

supervising the construction of in-stream structures.

• Operate appropriate heavy equipment in support of the implementation of stream restoration or wildlife

habitat management plans.

• Lend technical assistance to other agencies (USEPA, PFBC, PA Game Commission (PGC), etc.) with

respect to stream restoration techniques and structure construction upon request.

• Coordinate and aid in preparation of permits and appropriate CAD drawings for stream restoration and

habitat management activities.

• Provide public information.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Job will require wading in streams, manual labor, work in close proximity of large heavy equipment, odd

hours, and travel/time away from home.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• A basic understanding of water, environmental, agricultural and/or natural resource science.

• Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in wildlife conservation, water and/or environmental science,

agricultural and/or natural resource science or engineering.

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and/or RiverMorph.

• Two years of experience in stream characterization and restoration implementation.

• Experience with excavators, track trucks, dump trucks, skid steers, and farm tractors.

• Experience with power hand tools such as gasoline powered jack hammers, gasoline powered drills,

chainsaws, cutoff saws, etc.

• Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies.

• Ability to work independently with little supervision.

• Ability to develop innovative solutions to problems.

• Valid driver’s license required; CDL a plus!
