Job Description:

NOAA is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented students who are pursuing a degree or certificate program in an accredited educational institution for our Summer Intern Program. The NOAA Summer Intern Program targets students currently enrolled (or currently enrolled and accepted for enrollment) in a degree-seeking or Certificate program at least on a half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of student by the closing date of the announcement will not be considered).

As a student trainee (Office Support), you will perform work assignments that are clear cut, well-planned, and designed to prepare the employee to perform work auxiliary to the organization. The incumbent receives direction and entry level, developmental assignments under closer than normal supervision. The major duties of the position may vary, however, consist of the full range of standard administrative and clerical assignments with related steps, processes, and methods.

 

NOTE: This vacancy may be used to fill other Student Trainee (Office Support), ZS-0399-2 positions throughout NOAA. The position must be alike (e.g.: the same qualifications and eligibility requirements as indicated in this vacancy announcement).

Qualifications:

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school.

Definition of Student: Student is defined as an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, or certificate) in a qualifying academic institution, on a half or full-time basis. Half-time is defined by the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. Students do not have to be in actual physical attendance in school, online curriculums are acceptable as long as the school is accredited by the Department of Education.

 

Proof of Enrollment: NOAA will use applicant's transcript as proof of enrollment in the identified college/university provided it demonstrates definition of eligible student. A letter from an educational institution indicating acceptance may be used as proof of enrollment for those students who are continuing studies at a new college or university or for those student whose transcripts do not reflect in-progress courses. An official transcript will be required before you can report to duty.

Key Requirements:

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.

A minimum one-year trial period will be required.

Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov)

Must sign a Pathways Programs Participant Agreement.

Housing will not be provided.

 

If selected, you will be required to provide official transcripts &/or letter from the school stating you are enrolled in a degree/certificateprogram on at least a half time basis in good standing and your expected graduation date.

A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

The Newport, OR duty location is in the bargaining unit. The Long Beach, CA; Portland, OR; and Seattle, WA duty locations are not in the bargaining unit.

Salary:
$30,015 - $50,715 per year
