Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to participating in and conducting activities and programs. Ensures safety of all assigned campers, assists with setup, cleanup, and minor cleaning of program and restroom areas. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Attends training and orientation as required. Creates a positive, creative and supportive learning environment. Leads and conducts activities and programs with assigned campers. Completes accident and incident forms as required. Maintains and cares for equipment used during programs and activities. Maintains alertness to ensure camper safety. Performs other related duties as required.When Assigned to a Camp Director positionOversees daily operations and supervision of participants/camp staff. Trains, supervises, and evaluates camp staff. Must be able to plan and create camp curriculum prior to start of camp. Interacts and provides communication with participants' parents/guardians. Plans and assigns daily activities. Ensures the creation of a positive, creative and supportive learning environment. Oversees volunteers and interns Coordinates use of supplies and facilities. Conducts safety/operational inspections of camp related equipment (including vehicles used) and makes adjustments as needed. Handles discipline problems as required. Job Related Requirements:WORK SCHEDULE: Camp training will be scheduled Tuesday through Friday the last week in May. Shifts will be scheduled between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm Monday-Friday. These are seasonal positions requiring your attendance at work. Additional staff is not hired for covering absences. Requests to be away from camp for more than three (3) consecutive days will be denied. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.If hired for a Summer position, you will be REQUIRED to attend an Orientation. Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsSix months of experience working with children in a camp, daycare, or other recreational setting where child supervision was required; OR one full season of day camp experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess current first aid and CPR (valid through end of Camp Season) by start of camp. Training is provided.Some high school required.High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. (Training provided by camp.) Must be able to teach using wild animals, including snakes and insects, in an educational setting.Must be able to lead off-site day trips that include hiking, swimming, and outdoor activities.Must be familiar with the principles of outdoor education when working at Sandy Creek Park and familiar with environmental principles when working at Sandy Creek Nature Center.Must be able to understand and implement American Camp Association standards to maintain camp accreditation.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of assigned division in the Leisure Services Department.
