Employer Georgia Forestry Commission Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills Opening: 2025 SUMMER FORESTER INTERNSHIP (40 hours/week) Opportunities available Availability: Summer 2025 (dates flexible) Pay: $15/hr General Forest Management – InternshipLocation: Central/South GAEXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Lead Forester and local foresters, the intern may assist with CRP status reviews, cost share practice planning/certification, multiple resource-based forest management plans, technical forestry assistance to landowners, trapping & monitoring of insect and disease populations, storm damage assessments, and assistance with timber sales on state lands. It is the goal of the agency to make this internship a well-rounded experience. State Lands – InternshipLocation: Dixon Memorial State Forest – Waycross, GAEXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Conduct timber cruising, stand mapping, timber harvest inspections, SMZ line marking, and timber marking - Conduct security load ticket reconciliation related to timber sales - Locate and mark State Property Boundaries and timber sale boundaries - Conduct seedling planting and survival surveys - Perform daily checks of equipment and routine maintenance and occasional repair - Construct and maintain facilities, inspect roads and grounds and perform maintenance as needed - Install repair and maintains fences, signs, and gates - Conduct stump cruises related to timber transaction complaints - Collect GIS data - Treat, monitor, and control invasive species - Assist with logistics or as needed on wildfires - Job duties are subject to change as circumstances dictate.
