Projects: The University of Vermont, Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources is seeking one(1) research assistant to assist with seedling plant projects to examine associated adaptive forest management strategies in northern hardwood and mixedwood forests across Vermont. Research assistants would work with multidisciplinary teams of graduate students and scientists from the University of Vermont, U.S. Forest Service Northern Research Station, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy, Vermont Land Trust, Vermont Forest Parks and Recreation, and The Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science.

 

Qualifications:

Applicant requirements: Applicants should have a background in forestry, natural resources, environmental science, ecology or biology. Experience with tree planting strongly desired. A working knowledge of tree identification and common forest measurements is strongly desired. Applicants must be willing and able to work efficiently in remote forested settings as part of a research team. Applicants must also be able to hike through varied terrain to reach study areas and be willing to work long hours outdoors. Applicants must have a valid driver's license.

 

Miscellaneous:

Responsibilities: Work will involve extensive field work, including the planting and measuring of tree seedlings in remote locations. The position begins mid-April 2023 and ends mid-October 2023. Travel expenses associated with overnight field work (lodging, transportation) will be provided. Some overnight camping required. Transportation to field sites is provided. Starting hourly wage is $15.00 and may vary depending on work experience. ​

Salary:
$15.00/hr
