Job Description:

The Technology Solutions Forester position will work with others in the GIS group to support all aspects of managing the GIS and Forest Inventory systems covering all RMS-managed properties. The Technology Solutions Forester will manage the editing of several corporate data sets, including the removal of recent land sales and area control on managed properties in the U.S. and internationally. The position will also work to ensure RMS forest systems are used properly by operations staff to manage field operations and maintain high-quality data efficiently. Meaningful regional travel will be required to support regional offices.

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • −  Operations Support

    • -  Training and support for all forest systems and applications, including field data collection software

    • -  Support batch data processing

    • -  Support ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online for field and Birmingham users

  • −  Forest Management System

    • -  Develop and enforce data quality standards

    • -  Regularly review data quality reports and work with field operations to correct issues

    • -  Work to identify root causes of data quality issues and resolve them

  • −  GIS Data Maintenance

    • -  General GIS data maintenance and data editing

    • -  Acquisition due diligence, data migration, and GIS data review

    • -  Assist in the GIS data quality improvement process

  • −  Map production and analytics

    • -  Develop standardized map product templates for use in both web and desktop applications

    • -  Support Birmingham users in the development of engaging and informative digital and printed map

      products

    • Work with GIS Team to develop “Self Service” applications for the generation of basic maps

    • -  Provide GIS analytic support on various corporate projects

    • -  Support land records inquiries

Qualifications:
  • Degree in forestry with emphasis on GIS; GIS degree, or previous experience with a focus on GIS

  • -  Proficient user of ArcGIS 10.X or ArcGIS Pro with competency in map production and data editing

  • -  Strong cartographic skills

  • -  Understanding of relational databases

  • -  Proficient in Microsoft SQL

  • -  Proficient with Microsoft Excel

  • -  Understanding of legal descriptions and land records

  • -  Knowledgeable of ESRI data storage formats

  • -  Knowledgeable of ESRI Geoprocessing tools and methods

  • -  Ability and desire for continued technical and professional growth

  • -  Demonstrated team player and leader

  • -  Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills

  • -  Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • -  Attention to detail
