The technician will assist a graduate student with an ongoing research project assessing the uptake and depuration of trace elements in aquatic species. This is a full-time temporary position. The preferred start date is the beginning of May 2023 and will continue until approximately December 2023 with the possibility for extension. No housing is provided with this position. The technician will assist with • Collection and dissection of aquatic animals (amphibians, crayfish, and fish) • Preparation of equipment for sampling • Animal husbandry • Processing biotic samples for analysis • Entering data into spreadsheets Qualifications: The ideal candidate has or is pursuing a B.S in ecology, biology, natural resources, environmental science, wildlife science, or a related field. We are looking for a self-motivated, responsible, efficient, and enthusiastic individual. Prior experience conducting field work is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who also have experience handling animals and working in a lab setting. The candidate must be able to conduct moderate to strenuous physical activity in the field under demanding field conditions (i.e., heat, high humidity, and insects). Applicants are expected to work both independently and in a team setting and demonstrate effective verbal and listening communication skills. This position will be located at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, SC. Miscellaneous: The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory is a research unit of the University of Georgia located on the 300 mi2 Savannah River Site, a Department of Energy facility near Aiken, SC. With a staff of over 140 faculty members, postdocs, research professionals, technicians, and graduate students, the laboratory pursues basic and applied research at multiple levels of ecological organization, from atoms to ecosystems.
