How will you contribute:

Timber Sales & Marketing:

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of timber sale marketing plans that achieve financial goals and desired outcomes.
  • Assist in effectively merchandizing trees to their highest value under a delivered wood system or support compliance for stumpage sales.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing effective timber selling techniques to maximize revenue generation.
  • Support wood customer relationships, ensuring their needs are met and fostering long-term relationships. Assist with timber sale preparation, negotiation, and marketing activities within the Resource Unit.
  • Assist in gathering market intelligence to understand the wood value chain and identify new market opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Unit teams to maximize the value of all wood products.

Operations Support:

  • Support the local teams with tactical harvest scheduling.
  • Supports the development and implementation of timber marketing plans, including the evaluation of selling techniques.
  • Assist in managing wood flows, harvesting logistics, and delivered wood contracts.
  • Serve as the interface with wood producers and haulers.
  • Works collaboratively within the Resource Unit to assist in implementing and coordinating various activities related to land management, silviculture and/or harvesting activities. Routinely involved in the planning and management of a subset of activities.
  • Conduct thorough harvest unit preparation, including heavy field marking of unit boundaries, riparian management zones (RMZs), and other critical features to ensure accurate, efficient, and environmentally sound harvesting operations.

Inventory and Data Management:

  • Conduct pre-harvest cruises for timber sale and operational planning.
  • Conduct Resource Unit inventory, post-thinning assessments, and final harvest measurements.
  • Proficiently performs spatial and tabular updates in the GIS database for silviculture, timber sale, and land activities.
  • Assists in the budgeting and forecasting process.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations:

  • Support the Resource Unit by identifying and addressing customer needs and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Promote continual improvement of contractor efficiency and productivity.
  • Contribute to overall team performance by sharing knowledge, collaborating effectively, and supporting colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field or equivalent experience in forestry operations.
  • At least 1 year of experience in stumpage sales or delivered forest products.
  • Basic understanding of land management practices, environmental law related to forestry and regional market dynamics.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires extensive physical activity, including hiking across varied terrain (uneven ground, slopes, wetlands, and dense vegetation), carrying equipment and supplies, and performing strenuous tasks like inventory measurements and sale setup. Work involves maintaining stability on uneven surfaces, navigating obstacles, and working in challenging positions, often outdoors in diverse weather conditions. Operating machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles are also required.
