The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Olympic Region as a Product Sales Coordinator, Natural Resource Specialist 3 (NRS3)

The mission of the Department of Natural Resources is to manage, sustain, and protect the health and productivity of Washington’s lands and waters to meet the needs of present and future generations. The management of trust assets is linked to decisions made during pre-sales, sales compliance, and silviculture functions of the region’s product sales team. The Product Sales Coordinator is a vital position that contributes to the success of meeting our goals, objectives, and DNR mission. This position provides professional-level forestry expertise to Olympic Region state lands operations and field staff related to DNR policies, procedures, and timber sale processes, serves as the region coordinator and consultant for document, process requirements, and policy interpretation in the timber sale program. This position coordinates with the Product Sales & Leasing Division, Forest Resources Division, the DNR SEPA Center, Olympic Region Forest Practice staff, timber sale purchasers, other region staff, and public agencies regarding land management information, environmental regulation,s and DNR policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently organizes, monitors, evaluates, and makes improvements to the product sales administration program, which includes timber sales advertising, timber sales contract administration, and timber sale auctions.
  • Coordinate and supervise the regional office preparation of direct, region, and board timber sale packets, which include SEPA checklists, FPA permits, HCP checklists, timber sale contracts, specialist consultations, cruise documents, and timber sale maps. This involves reviewing the work of professional field staff to ensure that department standards/policies are being met.
  • Provide expert assistance to the region field and office staff, division staff, prospective purchasers, purchasers, and the general public on timber sale program policy and the region’s forest product sales program processes.
  • Responsible for the preparation and auditing of county income reports, timber sale extensions, performance bonds, timber payment bonds, timber sale insurance requirements, payment billings, bank letters of credit, status reports, log accountability inspection reports, timber sale assignments, log brand assignments, scaling, logging releases, sale closures, letters, and other correspondence.
  • Supervise two Contract Specialist 1s and prioritize, schedule, and assign work to the two CS1s.
  • Coordinate and lead the Olympic Region’s timber sales auctions at the Olympic Region office, ensuring that day-of-sale activities follow established division procedures and protocols.

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • 2 years of experience in the following:
    • Contract administration, negotiation, and dispute/resolution
    • Implementing plans and/or processes guided by the State Environmental Policy Act
    • Interpreting and analyzing policy related to forestry, conservation, or forest practices.
  • Knowledge of principles, forest land planning, and timber management planning, including Forest Practices rules and the Habitat Conservation Plan.
  • Experience in accurately reading, writing, and interpreting contract language.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software in a professional setting.
