Start Date: April 17, 2023 Estimated End Date: April 12, 2024 *a 52-week minimum commitment is required * Location: Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park- Woodstock, VT Nestled among the rolling hills and pastures of eastern-central Vermont, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is the only national park to tell the story of conservation history and the evolving nature of land stewardship in America. The boyhood home of George Perkins Marsh, one of America's first conservationists, and later the home of Frederick Billings, the property was given to the American people by its most recent owners, Laurance S. and Mary F. Rockefeller. Having a personal vehicle is not required, but highly recommended for commuting and to access groceries and other needs on days off. For more information about the park, please visit https://www.nps.gov/mabi/index.htm Position Overview: The ACE Trails Member will be a mix of both field and office-based activities that may include: Assisting the Education, Resource Management, and Facility Divisions to facilitate public outreach, events, and service projects on trails within the Woodstock Trails Partnership network. Supporting the development and implementation of seasonal public trail celebrations. Supporting the youth coordinator, maintenance team, and natural resources team in preparing for and coordinating youth crew projects. Working with a wide variety of summer and school-based youth groups and teachers to develop and conduct service-learning projects on trails. Supporting the Trail Ambassador volunteer program. Contributing to the park's social media and/or web content. Managing and updating the trail databases. Updating digital trail maps, and other supporting activities. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development, promote exposure to land management agencies, and networking with professionals. Opportunities may include gaining experience in different conservation fields (natural or cultural), and shadowing different work groups within the park. Schedule: Full-time position Monday to Friday; 8:00/8:30 am - 4:30/5:00 pm. During the summer, a weekly schedule will occasionally shift to Tuesday-Saturday to accommodate partnering with the Green Mountain Club to lead hikes along the Appalachian Trail. Position Benefits Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $540/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. AmeriCorps Education Award Program: This position may be eligible for a 1700-hour AmeriCorps Education Award while serving under the EAP 2022/23 grant year program, valued up to $6,495 upon successful completion of a complete service term and service hours. Loan Forbearance: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for federal loan forbearance. Additional enrollment steps are required. Housing: Park housing will most likely be provided at no cost to the ACE member. A housing allowance of $700/month will be provided if park housing is no longer available. Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific onboarding and training will be provided, which may include CPR and First Aid, Diversity and Inclusion, Leadership, tool use and safety.
