Job Description:

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

This position resides in our Land and Resource Management Division and will support Christmas tree farming operations, assist with field crew supervision, and support the Tree Farm Operations Manager in work planning and execution, budget and tracking assistance, and oversight of farm operations and sales. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

 

 

Plant, fertilize, shear, and harvest in all weather conditions.

Compact track loader, tractor, and other field equipment operation.

Pesticide and herbicide application with appropriate certification.

Work with Field Manager on safety meeting and execution of safe field operations for crew.

Assistance with weekly crew work scheduling.

Assist Tree Farm Logistics Coordinator.

Written daily field reporting to department management team when back up to Field Manager

Work as a technician with Steigerwaldt Land Services in the “off-season” and periodically during the year with job duties that include assisting foresters in field tasks, marking timber, timber inventory, and timber sale setup; interest in learning GPS data collection and processing

Train, supervise, and positively impact farm personnel.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

PREFERRED SKILLS

 

Desire to develop a career in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business.

Confidence in skills in delegation and decision making to effectively to lead a team and manage team dynamics.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Ability and interest in obtaining a pesticide applicators license within 6 months of start date.

Ability and interest in operating equipment associated with a tree farm.

Ability to assist managing our retail Christmas tree operations for up to four consecutive weeks in

Ability and willingness to work six to seven days per week in peak harvest season from late October through mid-December.

Utilizes excellent people skills and customer service techniques.

Maintain strong working relationship with Tree Farm Manager, Field Manager, and field crew.

Competent with Microsoft Office

Familiarity with Lake States forest management and timber harvest administration.

Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals.

Experience with GPS data collecting and processing.

Experience with ESRI GIS software and GIS mapping and data collection principles.

Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from the Tomahawk office – travel up to 25 percent or more

Current valid driver’s license with personal vehicle suitable for field work (mileage is reimbursed)

ATV and snowmobile certifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT

At Steigerwaldt, we offer a Remote-Friendly Hybrid Work Model for our staff. Due to the nature of the team approach to our field work and needed access to equipment and company vehicles, the Tree Farm Field Manager position is considered a resident or office-based position with remote work possible, upon approval from the supervisor. The position is roughly 95 percent field work and 5 percent office work.

Salary:
$41,000.00 to $62,316.80
