Updated Silvics of North America Project – United States Coordinator

Employer
Three Vowels, LLC (contractor of NC State University)
Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

Background

The Silvics of North America (SNA) is the most cited and used silviculture guide globally. With 195 tree species listed, the SNA has been an invaluable resource for foresters looking for information on species range, regeneration, growth, insects and diseases, and genetics. It was first published in 1965 and last updated in 1990. Much has changed since 1990, and the SNA is now out of date regarding information (for example,  adaptive management for resilience to environmental stressors, contemporary range maps, current genetic information, and species range projections), a user-friendly delivery system (currently a hardcopy book and scanned PDF files), and a mechanism for periodic updates to keep pace with the rapidly changing information and conditions. A revised and expanded version of the SNA will meet the need for up-to-date information accessible online and readable across devices in a searchable and interactive format.
