Job Description:

This position will administer the UGA Tree Care and Maintenance Plan and be responsible for managing the health, growth, and care of all trees on the University of Georgia campus by overseeing an in-house tree care crew and implementing standard arboricultural and forestry practices and techniques. This position will manage the campus tree inventory by updating with new tree plantings, tree removals, and maintenance activities. This position will assess campus trees for risk and recommend appropriate actions as needed. This position will review construction plans and advise designers/engineers on tree protection.

Qualifications:

4-year degree in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or related field. 

4 years’ experience in arboriculture to include urban tree maintenance, tree felling, risk management and inventory.

2 years’ experience in supervising, leading and mentoring employees in this field.

International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist certification, SAF Certified Forester, SAF Certified Urban and Community Forester, or Georgia Registered Forester.

Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months of hiring

  • Field knowledge of arboriculture standards and techniques for tree pruning, felling, and planting.
  • Knowledge of southeastern United States forest management.
  • Knowledge in the use and maintenance of standard industry equipment including chainsaws, bucket trucks, and basic landscape equipment as well as safety PPE associated with use of this equipment.
  • Knowledge of tree pesticide and fertilizer products, regimens, and application.
  • Knowledge of urban forestry planning and tree preservation/protection.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment for trees located in an urban setting.
  • Knowledge of basic organizational, management and human relations methodologies.
  • Skill in computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, database programs, ArcGIS and other software programs relevant to the position.
  • Skill in use of GPS systems and devices including the ability to utilize GPS obtained data in GIS software programs.
  • Ability to identify local tree and shrub species capable of growing in the Piedmont Region of Georgia.
Salary:
$60,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
