Job Description:

This is a highly responsible position in the Forest Management Bureau of the Florida Forest Service (FFS) requiring forestry and urban forestry knowledge and experience. With the direction of the Cooperative Forestry Assistance (CFA) Supervisor and working through the Accountant IV, while coordinating with the statewide network of County and Senior Foresters, the incumbent implements the development, planning, grant management, fiscal management and monitoring of all aspects of the FFS Urban Forestry Program.

This individual is responsible for management and administration of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service (FS) Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program including making application to USFS for grant funding, managing program budget including sub-grant awards, and providing interim and final programmatic reports as required by the FFS and the USDA FS.

Other responsibilities include implementation of the TREE CITY USA and Florida Champion Tree programs, providing support for local Arbor Day/Earth Day programs and activities, providing training for CFA Foresters on current urban forestry issues and techniques, maintaining the FFS “Millennium Grove” project and maintaining updated urban forestry information on the FFS website.

Additionally, as the FFS liaison to the Florida Urban Forestry Council, the incumbent provides program direction and technical assistance on urban forestry projects as needed. Incumbent also provides input to the FFS/department leadership on policy issues related to urban forestry as requested.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forestry or related field and two (2) years of professional experience in forestry; or

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forestry or related field and one (1) years of professional experience in forestry; or

An associate’s degree in Forestry or related and four (4) years of professional experience in forestry.

Professional experience in forestry can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Requires possession of a valid driver license.
