Job Description:

The 21st century is being called the century of water, with human and environmental health being impacted by water quality and quantity concerns worldwide. Join us to protect northern Wisconsin’s waters as a Wastewater Compliance Engineer with the Department of Natural Resources. You’ll work with a team of passionate and dedicated professionals to ensure municipal and industrial compliance with the Clean Water Act and state natural resources code, all while living in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin! This position will enforce state water pollution control laws; respond to complaints and emergencies related to permitted facilities; prepare wastewater discharge permits; and inspect and provide compliance assistance to municipalities and industries in the management of their wastewater collection and treatment facilities. This position will also be responsible for the inspection and monitoring of wastewater discharge permittees to assess the performance and compliance of municipal, industrial and pretreatment facilities with Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permits, administrative code requirements, state statutes and sound facility operation.

Qualifications:

Please make sure to describe at least one of the following minimum qualifications in your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position:

 

~Registration as a Professional Engineer as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04, Wis. Stats.

~A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing 4 years or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional engineering section and satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam

~Graduated from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field such as electrical, mechanical, civil or environmental engineering

~Has equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional engineer as defined in Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. and also deemed to be qualified to engage in professional engineering practice as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.03, or 443.04, or 443.05, Wis. Stats.

 

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

 

All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

 

Salary:
$56,160 to $86,802 based on classification
