Job Description:

The Waterfowl Research Scientist leads the Department’s waterfowl and waterfowl habitat research program. It is a high-level research scientist position responsible for planning, designing and conducting wildlife research with a strategic focus on waterfowl species and their habitats in Wisconsin. This position serves as the principal research scientist responsible for statewide planning and implementation of research studies designed to acquire new information critical to the management of waterfowl and their habitats. The Waterfowl Research Scientist provides novel research, analysis of statewide data and scientific consultation to support agency management decisions related to focal species and habitats. This position serves as the primary scientific consultant for the agency’s waterfowl management program.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include knowledge and experience in ALL of the following:

 

-Wildlife Ecology or related fields, including coursework taken and degrees earned.

-Waterfowl research principles and sampling methodologies.

-Wildlife research: including knowledge of wildlife population dynamics and demographics, data collection techniques, statistical analysis and interpretation of data, and population modeling.

 

 

Best-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred qualifications:

 

-An earned PhD in Wildlife Ecology or related field with experience transferring research findings in peer reviewed publications and/or technical and non-technical reports to external partners, and the public.

-Experience providing scientific information to support wildlife policy or decision making.

-Experience leading research teams/ directing the work of research technicians while working on research with direct management implications.

$83,200 - $85,196
