Job Description:

FOX Environmental, LLC is a small environmental consulting firm located in Decatur, GA seeking one or more interns to assist in stream monitoring and municipal infrastructure inspections/mapping. The paid position consists of field work (primarily) as well as office/computer work. Work days are somewhat flexible but require a commitment of eight-hour work days for a minimum of eight weeks during the summer. Some work is available in the spring and fall as well. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to participate in important environmental/engineering projects and learn skills that will enhance career opportunities in the future. More than one paid position may be filled. The opportunity could extend into a permanent position depending upon performance and interest.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have: (1) Demonstrated ability to work alone and without supervision; (2) Strong work ethic, integrity and motivation to learn; (3) Commitment to customer service and high-quality work products; (4) Reliable transportation; (5) Be in good physical condition and able to work outside during warm weather; and (6) Experience with computer software including Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS (preferred but not required). Examples of duties include:

• Plan and perform stream monitoring (primary duties)

• Field work inspecting and mapping storm sewer systems

• Field inspections of businesses to identify pollution prevention opportunities.

• Prepare and/or update databases of various types using Microsoft excel.

• Create and edit Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers and geodatabases of water quality, infrastructure and land use information.

• Participate in benthic macroinvertebrate and fish collections in the field.

• Participate in stream walks to identify pollution sources and prepare summaries of findings.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
