Job Description:

GALT is seeking a Wetland and Stream Restoration Specialist with the desire to develop their professional skill set, be invested as part of a team, and contribute to wetland conservation and restoration efforts. This position will focus on aiding mitigation banking site selection and credit generation efforts in Georgia through GALT’s In Lieu Fee (GALT-ILF) Mitigation Program.

The typical job duties associated with this position include desktop and field-based evaluations of proposed wetland and stream mitigation project sites, coordination with Corps of Engineers and mitigation project sponsors regarding proposed GALT-ILF funded mitigation projects, monitoring status and progress of existing GALT-ILF mitigation projects, data management and annual reporting. The candidate should have experience in wetlands delineation, restoration/mitigation project development, and USACE regulatory compliance. When able, the candidate may be asked to assist with other aspects of the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust operations, such as the writing of baseline reports for prospective conservation easements.

Although GALT’s office is located in Piedmont, Alabama, the person in this position works remotely within the state of Georgia.


General Requirements:

  • Experience with wetland and/or stream mitigation bank design and development, biological and hydrologic data collection/analysis, aquatic resources, and threatened/endangered species assessments
  • Three or more years of experience conducting wetland delineations and/or wetland and stream restoration
  • Education/training in wetland science, soil science, biology, ecology, and/or hydrology.
  • Knowledge of wetland/stream credits or other environmental commodities markets.
  • Demonstrated experience using GIS programs.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with various staff, governmental agencies, and environmental consultants.
  • Willingness to work outside in the field in all elements.
  • Communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Travel to/from project sites (principally within Georgia), with occasional travel to our office in Piedmont, Alabama.
Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Natural Resources related field (Wetland Conservation, Wetland Science, Soil Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering or similar).
  • Passion for the mission of land conservation and wetlands restoration.
  • Demonstrated experience in a related role.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and working in wetland delineation roles within the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), preferably in the Savannah District.
