Employer University of Georgia Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills The University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Lab is soliciting applications for 1 motivated research technician to assist with a project evaluating the transmission of vector-borne diseases in proximity to domestic and wild pig populations. The main responsibilities will include trapping, dispatching, and sampling wild pigs, scouting wallow sites, sampling domestic swine in production facilities, and sampling both larval stage and adult mosquitoes. Other duties may include data management in excel and maintaining field equipment. The anticipated start is late April 2025 but can be flexible for the right candidate. This position is expected to last through the summer and will be extended into the fall dependent on funding. Fall work will consist of conducting camera surveys as well as capturing and GPS collaring wild pigs. A B.S. in wildlife ecology or a related field, or students working towards a degree in these fields is required. We are looking for self-motivated, responsible, efficient, and enthusiastic individuals, and preference will be given to applicants possessing both strong field and organizational skills. Preference also will be given to candidates with experience capturing and handling wildlife, specifically large mammals, and an interest in disease ecology. The candidates must be able to work long days outdoors in variable weather conditions with biting insects and be able to lift and carry heavy objects. Other helpful qualifications include firearms training, the ability to mechanically repair equipment in the field, tow a trailer for moving traps, and strong navigation skills. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate commitment to timely completion of deliverables, effective communication with the research team, and the ability to work independently and in a team setting. This position will be based at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, SC for fall trapping work and include frequent travel to North Carolina.
