Deadline: Fri, 12/01/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Georgia Department of Natural Resources Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Georgia Location Detail: Several Field Sites in North Georgia Job Description: The Game Management Section of GA DNR-Wildlife Resources Division is seeking a temporary seasonal technician to assist with wild turkey and ruffed grouse surveys on several sites throughout north Georgia. The primary responsibilities will be to assist with wild turkey trapping and banding on Wildlife Management Areas in North Georgia from January through March 2024, and then to assist with Ruffed Grouse research during April and May. The Ruffed Grouse project duties will include roadside drumming surveys, placement and maintenance of Autonomous Recording Units, and drumming log surveys throughout North Georgia. Shared field housing will be provided. Duration: The anticipated start date is January 16, 2024, and the position will run through the end of May, not to exceed 160 calendar days. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. Applicants must have a strong interest in natural resources and be comfortable working outdoors. Duties will involve navigating independently to field sites using GPS, working early mornings, and occasional long days (not to exceed 40 hours per week). The ideal candidate will exhibit a high degree of independence, organization, and adaptability. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates currently working toward or have earned a wildlife biology or closely related degree, who have experience with independent field work, who have experience trapping and handling wildlife, and those with experience conducting avian surveys.
