Job Description:

Under broad supervision, this position is a member of a team that manages the western work unit of the region, including 5 WMAs and 12 counties. 

  • Writes and reviews long-term and short-term management plans for assigned WMAs.
  • Utilizes GIS applications for planning and tracking habitat management and faunal species surveys and monitoring. 
  • Plans and conducts prescribed burns on WMAs. Provides wildlife technical assistance, including conflict abatement to private landowners, local governments, and other state agencies in assigned counties. 
  • Serves on a rotational after-hours/weekend/state holiday on-call schedule.
  • Participates in DNR response to natural disasters including, but not limited to, hurricanes, tornados, and ice storms, and other emergencies declared by the Governor, as needed.
  • Supervises 1 full-time wildlife technician and seasonal/part-time technicians as determined by region supervisor.
     
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications for WL Biologist 1: 

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field from an accredited college or university. 

Minimum Qualifications for WL Biologist 2: 

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field from an accredited college or university and one year of related work experience or one year experience as the lower WL Biologist 1 or position equivalent. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Work Experience with GIS applications
  • Work experience with game species, work experience in leading or participating in prescribed burns
  • Living within or in a county immediately adjacent to assigned work counties/WMAs or willingness to relocate
  • GA DNR Wildlife Resources Division work experience.
Salary:
Entry for Bio 1 = $46,038.32; Entry for Bio 2 = $50,063.23
