Job Description:

As part of the Freshwater Biodiversity Program, the Wildlife Biologist 2 will contribute to the conservation of fishes, mollusks, and crayfishes within northeast Georgia (upper Savannah, upper Chattahoochee, and Tennessee river basins). They will work closely with private landowners and partners to meet conservation goals for high priority species and watersheds designated in Georgia's State Wildlife Action Plan. The Wildlife Biologist 2 participates in environmental review of impacts to aquatic species and habitats from a wide variety of projects and makes recommendations for preventing or mitigating adverse impacts to aquatic resources. They will provide technical support and outreach to individuals, corporations, government agencies, non-profits, educational institutions, and other conservation partners as needed. The Wildlife Biologist 2 will contribute to program goals, statewide conservation plans and reports, and assist other DNR staff as needed. Responsibilities include implementation, coordination, and reporting for federally funded projects and supervision of technical staff.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university. OR Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience. OR One year of experience required at the lower-level Wildlife Biologist 1, (NRP060) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

• Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university

• Experience with surveys, monitoring and identification of aquatic species in the southeastern United States

• Experience with planning and implementation of aquatic conservation actions, including species reintroduction, aquatic organism passage, and habitat management at local and watershed scales

• Experience with the environmental review of projects impacting aquatic species, including transportation, energy production, commercial and industrial development, resource extraction and other projects

• Strong project management skills that include communication, grant and report writing, budgeting, and adherence to deadlines

• Familiarity with data management and GIS software

Salary:
$48,063.23
