Job Description:

This position is part of the Private Lands Program, Bobwhite Quail Initiative and will be based in a local NRCS office to provide technical assistance to several counties in Southeast Georgia. The individual will work in a joint capacity with partner agencies to promote, coordinate and implement conservation provisions of the Farm Bill on private lands, with a primary focus on the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) Working Lands for Wildlife. Under general supervision, duties include but are not limited to providing technical assistance to landowners and working with natural resource agency personnel and partners to promote the implementation of wildlife habitat management practices on private farms and forest lands to benefit bobwhites and other grassland-dependent species. Primary duties include the development of detailed habitat management plans and financial incentive proposals to integrate bobwhite management with other natural resource objectives and conducting bird monitoring on private and public lands.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

One year of related experience.

OR

One year of experience required at the lower-level Wildlife Biologist 1, (NRP060) or position equivalent.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • A Masters degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or Wildlife Science from an accredited

    college or university

  • Detailed knowledge relative to the ecology and management of early successional habitats for

    northern bobwhite and other wildlife in the Southeast, agriculture, and forestry practices

  • Prior experience working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Bill, and other cost-

    share and incentive programs

  • Experience writing wildlife management plans

  • Wildlife Resources Division employees

Salary:
Entry Salary: $48,063.23
