Job Description:

This position is part of the Private Lands Program, and will work in several counties in South and Central Georgia. Under general supervision, duties include but are not limited to working intensively with landowners, farmers, natural resource agency personnel, and others to promote the implementation of wildlife habitat management practices on a private farm and forest lands to benefit Northern Bobwhites and other grassland- dependent species. Primary duties include 1) the development of comprehensive wildlife management plans 2) providing education and training to landowners and other user groups on the use of prescribed fire 3) providing direct assistance to landowners with the planning and implementation of prescribed fire 4) conducting surveys and evaluate impacts wildlife management practices on wildlife populations on private lands 5) contribute the development and implementation of the Bobwhite Quail Initiative Plan and other conservation plans by working with state, federal, and non-profit organizations to increase the use of prescribed fire on private lands.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

One year of related experience.

OR

One year of experience required at the lower-level Wildlife Biologist 1, (NRP060) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • A Masters degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or Wildlife Science from an accredited

    college or university

  • Detailed knowledge relative to the ecology and management of early successional habitats for

    northern bobwhite and other wildlife in the Southeast

  • NWCG certifications (e.g., I-100, L-180, S-130, S-190, IS-700), Georgia Prescribed Burn Certification, or

    other equivalent prescribed fire training.

  • Experience planning and implementing prescribed fire to improve wildlife habitat and forest health

  • Applicants with prior experience working with private landowners and federal, state or other wildlife

    habitat assistance programs

  • Wildlife Resources Division employees

Salary:
Entry salary: $48,063.23
