Job Description:

This position is part of the Private Lands Program and will work in several counties in Southeast Georgia. Under general supervision, duties include but are not limited to working intensively with landowners, farmers, natural resource agency personnel, and others to promote the implementation of wildlife habitat management practices on private farm and forest lands to benefit bobwhites, gopher tortoise and other pine savanna/grassland dependent species. Primary duties include the 1) development of detailed habitat management plans to integrate wildlife management with other natural resource objectives 2) assisting with applications, planning, and implementation of financial incentive contracts 3) providing education and training to landowners and other user groups on wildlife habitat management on private lands 4) conducting surveys and evaluate impacts wildlife management practices on wildlife populations on private and public lands.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

One year of related experience.

OR

One year of experience required at the lower level Wildlife Biologist 1, (NRP060) or position equivalent.

NOTE: One-year experience must include analyzing biological data, and presenting, or reporting that data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A Masters degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or Wildlife Science from an accredited college or university

• Detailed knowledge relative to the ecology and management of early successional habitats for wildlife in Southeastern agricultural and forested landscapes

• Prior experience working with private landowners and federal, state, or other wildlife habitat assistance programs

• Experience writing wildlife management plans

• DNR/WRD employment experience
